Johnson County Community College will receive $82,000 from the Workforce Solutions Fund to assist the college in developing a solar electric photovoltaic training program. The program will train workers to install and service solar panels. The demand for renewable energy is increasing the need for people with this expertise, said Jay Antle, executive director of the JCCC Center for Sustainability. “As solar technology improves, traditional coal-powered energy prices go up and state and federal government solar tax credits increase, there will be more and more people required to configure, mount and maintain solar electric systems – from small private homes to large commercial operations,” Antle said. The Kansas Department of Commerce informed the college about the funding in March. The department administers the fund to help postsecondary institutions.
