Johnson County motorists start seeing their federal stimulus dollars at work on Monday, but they might not appreciate the traffic complications involved. Clarkson Construction is scheduled to begin reducing lanes on U.S. Highway 69 at the start of the work week as part of the $80 million widening of the highway from 75th Street to Interstate 435. The project includes adding a lane in each direction on the highway, rebuilding Lenexa Drive from 87th to 75th streets and improving interchanges at 75th, 87th and 95th streets. The closures on Monday will affect the left southbound lane of U.S. 69 between 91st and 103rd streets from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, if weather allows, the left southbound lane of U.S. 69 from I-35 to 95th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the same work. Motorists are advised to expect delays or to use other routes if they can. Those who travel this area can expect closures to be a common inconvenience until the project is completed sometime in 2011.
