Last year, the Gant sisters sold their Leawood business to Cindy See and her daughters, Hannah and Audrianna. The music and drama school, now known as The Key of See, has maintained the Gant sisters’ original music, curriculum and style of teaching. Elizabeth Gant said the Sees have the same passion for teaching music and drama to young children as she and her sister. “We knew we couldn’t teach classes forever and wanted to pass the torch to just the right people,” Elizabeth said. “Like us, the Sees are people who love children and music and believe that when combined, beautiful things happen.” The Sees are no strangers to the Gant sisters. Cindy See, who has a bachelor’s degree in music, took classes at Avila and met the Gant sisters when their music and drama school was located there about 20 years ago. Hannah and Audrianna attended the Gant sisters’ classes when they were young and have also helped in the classroom throughout the years. See said the Gant sisters laid a wonderful foundation and the family is proud to maintain that tradition. “The Gant sisters have meant so much to so many families over the years,” See said. “It isn’t our desire to fill their shoes, but to follow in their footsteps.” The Key of See will offer five classes a week beginning in September. Seventeen-year-old Hannah and 13-year-old Audrianna are homeschooled and can schedule their studies around the music and drama activities their new business offers. Both have been active in music, dancing and drama since they were young and have participated in Theatre in the Park productions. See said she loves her new career. “I can’t really call it a job,” See said. “There’s a goodness about what we do that you wish the children didn’t have to outgrow.” The Gants said the first year away from their business has been bittersweet but they are still very involved with music. “We feel so good about the Sees’ love of music and their ability to work with children in such a loving manner,” Katherine said. “It has enabled us to start the second chapter of our life.” The sisters continue to write, produce and market their music. Elizabeth said one of their CDs is currently at the White House being reviewed by first lady Michelle Obama’s staff. For more information, visit www.thekeyofsee.com or www.gantsisters.com.

Generations of area children learned to enjoy music under the watchful eyes and gentle dispositions of local composers, authors and musicians Elizabeth and Katherine Gant. The two sisters, who retired a year ago, taught music and drama to children ages 3 to 6 for more than 45 years.
