Rebuilding Together Shawnee, an affiliate of the nation’s leading nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities, has received a “Room to Rebuild” grant from the Rodeway Inn Owners Association.

This is one of the initial grants issued through the national partnership between Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together.

Rebuilding Together Shawnee and Rodeway Inn of Lawrence will team up Saturday, Sept. 26, to assist Shawnee Community Services, a nonprofit organization that provides food and clothing to residents in need.

Nearly 40 volunteers will come together to make repairs and upgrades to the Shawnee Community Services facility, including improving the parking lot and installing and painting new shelving.

“The work done by Rebuilding Together Shawnee will help ensure our time and resources directly benefit the people of Shawnee,” Evelyn Van Kemseke, Shawnee Community Services founder, said.

“The current economic struggles have increased the demand for our services, and this project will allow our organization to continue focusing on serving the community.”

“Room to Rebuild” is a recently established $1.5 million national grant partnership between Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together.

This fall, 20 Rebuilding Together affiliates will complete projects with funding from the “Room to Rebuild” grant program, helping homeowners and nonprofit organizations alike.

“The relationship with Rebuilding Together provides an opportunity for Rodeway Inn hotel owners and their employees across the country to get involved in meaningful projects that make a real difference in revitalizing their local communities while improving quality of life for individuals and families in need,” Nilesh “Neil” Bhakta, Rodeway Owners Association president, said.
