Talk Back calls from our readers... A private matter Tipping a mail carrier is customer prerogative. It’s not a question of acceptable or unacceptable. And the amount is the business of the customer and the mail carrier. Nobody else’s business. Smoking fines I’ve noticed in other areas of the state where minors are ticketed and pay a hefty fine for smoking. Why do we not hear of such charges when we see young children smoking many times every day in Johnson County? Nervous animals There are those that contend that domestic animals as well as animals in the zoo were nervous just prior to the devastating earthquake in Chile. That also would include the killer whale that killed the handler. Maybe someone should check into this. There may be more to it than we realize. Union Station idea Concerning Union Station losing money, my idea would be to have a train for people to take their kids on and to stop at a little town where there is a farmers market there for them and for restaurants to bring food out like a little picnic.
No secrets There are those that say that President Obama is operating under the table and not telling us the truth. But just analyze this. He let his medical records be public, including the fact that he’s still apparently sneaking cigarettes in the bathroom. Who else would do that? Cutbacks The state of Kansas is falling way behind budget, which means more cutting back on state services such as schools. Thanks to the educators and the state workers and the union people who voted for liberal Democrats. You may be losing your jobs. Running on empty For some of the readers that might be financially depressed, I would like to make this suggestion. Do not let your gasoline in your gas tank in your car run down to empty, because the fuel pump is inside the gas tank, and it depends upon the gasoline for lubrication. So if you think you’ve got troubles now, if it runs out of lubrication, then you’re going to have to drop the gas tank and put in a new fuel pump. Not to the moon Caller, the space shuttle does not go to the moon. If you want to complain, at least get your facts right. Seeking control What really is the goal of the Obama administration? Is it to control every aspect of our lives? As you know, the government now controls some car companies, insurance companies and banks. What is next? If this so-called health care bill is passed, the government will control one-fifth of the economy, and it will affect our ability to choose our doctor, our choice of care and even our insurance company. Our freedom is at stake. All together Steve Rose is exactly right. He and I live in Johnson County, but we are intricately entwined with Kansas City, Mo. That’s the way it is. Mail service As a small child, I lived in the Chicago area, and at the time, regular postage was 3 cents. We had delivery to the house twice a day, morning and night, Monday through Saturday. It burdens me to see they are considering eliminating Saturday entirely. Economic solution One of the problems of the economy is we need more actual factories and fewer drive-through restaurants. Placing blame In response to “Responsibilities,” who blamed right-wing talk show pundits for the guy flying his plane into the IRS building, blaming them is as ludicrous as blaming the left for the crazy professor who shot the six university professors at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. No one is to blame for either tragic incident other than the two crazy people who committed this crime. Somewhere else At this time the rapist is loose in Waldo. But the more they proceed to try to find him or catch him or put him away, the more apt he is to move to some other district or other place and hide out for a while and then take off again and do the same thing somewhere else. Commandment To “Born again,” last I heard, one of the Ten Commandments was “Thou shalt not kill.” Be responsible When I receive a piece of mail in my mailbox that is not for me and it belongs to someone else on another street or another address, I normally will either give it back to the postal carrier or actually drive over there and give it to them. I would hope everybody would do that, but it is apparent there are people that don’t do that. I think that we are all responsible to ourselves to some degree. Backyard fun The kids in my neighborhood need to discover this thing called the backyard. When you kick the ball you don’t have to chase it in the street and dodge around the cars to get your ball back.

Fire Judge Beier in November, for stalling the prosecution of dozens of felony crimes in Planned Parenthood’s Overland Park late-term abortion mill, and for gagging a judge who is a witness.
