Mission-based Support Kansas City, a local nonprofit agency providing business and administrative support services to other nonprofits, announces the winners of the 2010 Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Award. Rose Brooks Center won the award for an agency with a budget of more than $3 million and Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City has been granted the award for an agency with a budget of $3 million or less. The award honors these agencies for the strong and balanced relationship between their board of directors and executive staff, as well as meeting criteria drawn from the Nonprofit Sector’s Principles for Good Governance and Ethical Practices. “It was impressive to see the level of commitment to high standards in leadership from board and staff members throughout the nomination process,” Debra Box, Support Kansas City executive director, said. Rose Brooks Center has been providing services to women and children escaping abuse since 1978. “I am most pleased with RBC’s growing reputation as a leader in innovative, comprehensive domestic violence programming,” Rose Brooks CEO Susan Miller said. “I have never been so encouraged and proud of the tremendous success of our agency and staff.” Down Syndrome Guild provides support and resources for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, as well as offering public education to foster positive attitudes toward people with Down syndrome. “It has been a privilege to carry out DSG’s mission to assist educators, parents and organizations locally, nationally and internationally to create positive outcomes for people with Down syndrome,” Amy Allison, the guild’s executive director, said. Rose Brooks Center and Down Syndrome Guild will receive their awards Thursday, April 29, during Support Kansas City’s 10 Year Anniversary Luncheon at the Kauffman Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City, Mo. Jim Mueth, vice president at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, will serve as honorary chair. The event also will honor Turner House Children’s Clinic with a special recognition award for its progress, along with several key stakeholders and supporters, including founder David Ross.
