The city of Kearny’s annual Independence Day celebration will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at the Kearney Amphitheater in Jesse James Park.

After two free concerts, a fireworks show will begin over the amphitheater at about 9:30 p.m.

City officials ask those who plan to attend to arrive early.

" What a wonderful show Kearney put on! Since moving to Kearney a little over a year ago I have always attendend the Gladstone fireworks held at Oak Grove Park. Boy, was i going to the wrong place!! Kearney blew Gladstone out of the water!!! The food was reasonably priced, plenty of bathrooms and my son loved the inflatables. My only complaint was the parking. It took us 45 minutes to get out of the park. I thought there could have been a better plan of action from the Kearney Police in getting everyone out...maybe we need another enter/exit into the park?
As for the comment above about the Orchesta, being a 20something i didnt mind it at all. I enjoyed listing to something different for a change. My husband and I even danced a little on the sidewalk. Thanks for a memorable fourth of July! "

" I actually have a question, I'm a little dissappointed that it's not on the 4th but okay. We sort of made plans to go there on the 4th for our Friday night activities and now it's tonight, so no plans for tomorrow. We are working today and to me it seems to put alot into a day a night for people who work to be a little tired to put things together tonight. Okay so there's my comment.

The only other thing is why an Orchestra? I have been to the display and although great,,,,I do believe the crowd was 90% younger than needed to be for an Orchestra,,,,,who decided on that? Is the board 70 and older. I tried several sites of Kearney's, can't find any details about the festivities for tonight,,,any kids things to do, moonrides or anything like there was before with food vendors, etc???????

If you are able to get with me before work is over it would be great.

Thank you. "
