Flying high

Major T. Dyon Douglas, 33, a 1992 graduate of Raytown High School and member of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, has always loved to fly. Douglas didn’t dream, though, that he would one day be a member of the elite squad until around 18 months ago.

“I was presented with the opportunity, talked to some people I knew with the Thunderbirds and thought it would be a great experience,” he said.

Page expects Blue Jays to have success

The next chapter in Raytown High football, which includes the season home opener against Kearney on Friday, Aug. 29, is ready to be written under the direction of first-year head coach Kevin Page.

“I expect us to win football games, I expect us to be competitive against everyone we play,” he said. “We have to set the tone for a new age in Raytown football.

New facilities open as school year starts

Buses took to the streets, backpacks filled with supplies were checked and parents made sure their children were ready to go on time as students across the Raytown School District returned to class Monday, Aug. 18, for the first day of school. The day included the opening of Raytown Central Middle School along with several other new additions.
