Rail plan looks for approval in November
The Kansas City Council unanimously agreed on Aug. 7 to present voters with a 3/8-cent sales tax over 25 years on the Tuesday, Nov. 4, ballot to pay for a 14 mile light rail spine.
In doing so, the council followed through on its promise to present voters with a new plan after the council deemed a November 2006 petition initiative plan unworkable even though it was approved by voters. Sounds like the city’s work is done until the November vote, right?
PANTHER PRIDE
Last year was the first time in six years Park Hill South High’s girls volleyball team did not hoist a district championship trophy over its head.
It was tough to blame them though, as a team full of underclassmen met up with an Oak Park team full of seniors.
First-day butterflies for students, staff
Things that Diane Simpson, Southeast Elementary School’s new principal, had to worry about on the Aug. 13 kick-off of classes for the 2008-2009 academic year: roughly 500 students and their parents, 42 staff members, and a 45-foot, mulch-filled tractor-trailer backing into her employee parking lot.
